Providing Free Eye Exams and Glasses to Residents in Need in Watts

Children Mending Hearts partnered with VSP Vision Eyes of Hope to host a transformative event at the Jordan Downs Center in Watts, Los Angeles. Eye health and clear vision benefit education, employment, quality of life, overall health and so much more, yet 1.1 billion people around the world live with vision impairment and can’t get the care they need for a variety of reasons. This is why on April 18th and April 19th 2024, residents in need had access to free eye exams and glasses, ensuring that they could see clearly and thrive in their daily lives.

The event brought together volunteer eye doctors and dedicated staff to provide essential vision care services to the community. Over the course of the two days, over 90 patients received personalized eye exams, with most of them leaving with free prescription eyeglasses.

We were thrilled to collaborate with VSP Vision Eyes of Hope to make a tangible difference in the lives of individuals and families in the Watts community. Clear vision is not just about seeing the world; it's about accessing opportunities and realizing one's full potential. By providing free eye care services, we are helping to break down barriers and empower individuals to thrive.

The event not only addressed immediate vision care needs but also underscored the importance of community collaboration and support. By coming together, nonprofits, volunteers, and local residents demonstrated the power of collective action in creating positive change.
