Kindness Counts
Presented by Business For Good
Kindness Counts is a Kindergarten through 2nd Grade program by Children Mending Hearts and presented by Business For Good.
Teaching our younger generations to spread kindness is more important than ever. This grant, inspired by the messages in we can find in books, provides valuable lessons on kindness, compassion, and understanding to our youngest scholars to help them use kindness as the new standard.
Kindness Counts is an eight-lesson art program for grades K-2 that is designed to start introducing kids to the concepts of kindness and empathy at a young age.
Teachers receive everything they need for the curriculum including a reading guide with tailored questions toward finding the empathy, love, and togetherness in each amazing story; art supplies; and a packet of activities for their students. They read the story, discussing throughout, and then students complete a fun, creative art project that helps solidify the message in their mind.
Quotes from Applicants
"Ms. Daugherty is often heard saying "be the rainbow in someone else's cloudy day." She celebrates everyone's differences and unique abilities. Her long time friend, John T, is the teacher's assistant in her room. John T has Down Syndrome and is such a huge part of the classroom culture in Ms. Daugherty's room. I would love for her to be recognized for the wonderful things she is doing each day and also be given even more resources to use with her students." - Susan
"It felt a little silly to nominate myself for this grant. I began to close my web browser when I stopped myself— I’m not doing this for myself, but for each and every little face that will grace Room D103 this fall. The school at which I teach is a Title 1 School, meaning that most of my students do not receive educational activities that allow them to be creative outside of school. For many of our students, school is their safe place. I have always began each school year with a presentation where I introduce my students to my family. This year I had a student ask, “Why does your baby match everything she has?” In that moment, I introduced my students to Kickee Pants— my favorite brand and borderline obsession. From that day on, Miss Lewis was expected to show up to spirit week dress up days in her “Kickee Camo” gear, complete with a matching throw blanket. My students noticed how much joy it brings me to wear Kickee and talk about it. I gifted a Candy Apple Rose Swaddle to a student’s expectant mother because that’s what Kickee is about. The sense of community and unity that has come from this brand has absolutely become intertwined with both my life and career. I would be more than proud to share the world of Kickee with my students." - Miranda
"Melissa works tirelessly to provide engaging, fun, lessons for her students and often puts in more than required, all while being an inspiration for those wanting to follow her dreams. She went to college when her daughter (me) was in elementary school and graduated and is working for her masters currently. She has worked so hard to get to where she is today and I am so proud of her! I believe that she and all the other teachers at WCC are A+ and deserve to be nominated for that reason." - Emily
